Default Thoughts on these torque limiters.

Ls swapped circle track truck, basically a stock 5.3. Our class rules do not allow solid mounts, however we must have engine chained down (turnbuckles acceptable). Do you for see any issues with the way I have done this to basically make the engine solid? I have purposely used smaller turnbuckles as hopefully if something is gonna let loose it will be the buckles and not a piece of the head haha. All i have done is tightened them by hand not actually sucked the engine down. Give me your thoughts please!

I would STILL watch for cracking the RH head. The shock forces on that ONE bolt will amaze you.

Right hand head? Shouldnt be much load on that one at all only under engine breaking? Am I wrong? Drivers side is the one I tried to beef up a bit as thats the side that will try and lift

back in my youth, it was de rigueur to chain your torque monster 455/454 etc. I had at one time experimented with those fence hardware turnbuckles and even back then they were too cheaply made to work very well, the threads pulled right out, or the ends which are just looped would bend all catty wompus

maybe they make some grade 8 ones i never knew about but my experience with that sorta thing went poorly

Yeah those turn buckles are junk. I'd redo it with real rod ends. Then use a longer bracket that uses two cylinder head bolt holes.

id strongly suggest tying into the holes on the end of the heads so the bolts are in shear instead of tension. and as someone else said, get into more than one hole. as many as you can.

Thanks for the replies guys! I think Im gonna scrap them and try and find some incognito poly engine mounts then just run chains with slack in them. Not much for mounting options on drivers side head for a limiter set up

I may be an idiot here, from what I can find only the poly mounts have the little metal “alignment” tabs on engine mounts. Do I already have poly mounts hahahha??

You may as well put solid mounts in there, those aren’t really torque limiters, as they don’t allow the engine to move at all and are rigid to the frame. Probably too much for that one outer head bolt as well.

We arent allowed solid mounts of I would. Idea of turnbuckles is to basically give solid mounts within our rules.
