Default Mechanical Fan Clutch Option, for those interested.

This was a hard piece of information to find but I thought I would share a few pictures. This is not a debate of mechanical vs electrical fan. I’m just sharing that I found a fan clutch that adds a bit of clearance for engine swaps.

swap is into a 98 Ford Ranger, original fan clutch is a 2002 Tahoe 5.3. I found that the 2005 Chevy Colorado 3.5 uses a shorter fan clutch. It was also available on some Chevy 5.7L engines.

pictures below:

In the future I may change to electric fans, for now I’m interested in just getting started and going through the current wires. I thought this info might help someone with clearance issues.

And yes, I opened every box at O’Reillys…

Not worth much in clearance, it’s the same height as the 4.0l Jeep fan clutch; however, it uses the factory GM fan blades.

Before: 2002 Tahoe Fan Clutch

After: 2005 Chevy Colorado 3.5l fan clutch
