Default K10 LS mud truck transfer case

Hey everyone, looking for a bit of info for a project I’m currently collecting parts for… the plan is to put a 5.3 from an early 2000’s Silverado into an 86 K10 that currently has a 350 with a 700r4 and a np208. The 5.3 came with a 4l60e and a transfer case that obviously will not work as it’s a drivers side drop.
From the research I’ve done so far I believe my best bet is to use the 5.3 and 4l60 with the original np208 behind that. The issue that I will have is with the VSS signal for the PCM, since the 208 uses a mechanical Speedo cable rather than a speed sensor. Good new this is a mud truck which will rarely see 2nd gear and probably never 3rd. My main question is if I have no speed sensor signal to the PCM could I still manually select 2nd gear either column shifter? If I remember correctly from when I had. 2005 sierra I could drop the shifter from “D” to “2” and from a dead stop I would start off in 2nd gear. Would this work is no VSS signal? And feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

All electronic trans require a VSS input

Thankfully, there are multiple options for this

Mechanical inline VSS, External relucotor/sensor, Modifying the T-case etc

Dakota Digital makes a speedo cable inline VSS. I've used it twice with manual trans. The pulse rate is much lower than the original, so you'll have to tune for that. I've also used a T10 reverse gear as a reluctor ad drilled the case for an aftermarket VSS.
