Default Same camshaft for VVT and non-VVT?

Hello folks. I have an 2011 L96 6.0 on the engine stand here. I bought this engine as is, rebuilt but never ran. This engine came outta the factory with VVT but no DOD. It currently has the stock VVT camshaft P/N 12609370 (superceded by P/N 12625440). All the VVT gear (sprocket, timing over, etc) has been removed and replaced with non-VVT counterparts.

Now, from what I'm reading, VVT and non-VVT cams are ground differently and will not run/tune right. So I figured ok I'll just buy a replacement camshaft for a 6.0 L77 or L98, neither of which are VVT engines. The problem is I'm running into a lot of conflicting information. Some sources say both the L98 and L77 use part number 12625439 for the camshaft. However this same cam is also noted as being the factory replacement part for the LY6, L96 and L76, all of which are VVT engines. Other sources list a different part number, 12625438 for the L77. They also list this same part number for the L76, again a VVT engine.

Can someone more knowledgeable please help me out and clarify which cam part number is for a factory Gen IV 6.0 non-VVT engine?

If you couldn't tune a Cam then any of the larger aftermarket ones wouldn't work at all.

Anything can be tuned, all on the tuner and how good they are.

Yes, a factory VVT camshaft without operational VVT will be way down on power compared to stock. But if you're going to correct it, might as well put a mild camshaft while your in there, for not much more cost. The SDPC LS6 Powermax 204/222 112+1 .551/.570 and the matching springs are very budget friendly. On your 6.0L it will make more power everywhere and could be tuned for a stealthy idle.

I'm not looking for any aftermarket cams, I'm also not here to discuss who's the better tuner or what can or can't be tuned.

I just need a simple answer to a simple question. What's the correct part number for the non-VVT cam in L77/L98 engines?

I've learned a lot of really good tech information over the years from people chiming in with stuff that didn't answer my question at the time but worked out better in the long run.

For future reference, if you're that adamant about your ONE simple question, don't add a bunch of technical stuff before it and not expect it to get discussed in a tech forum with the vast knowledge we have in here.

Can't appreciate that or don't like it, leave.
