Default 240sx Sikky headers help

Hello All!!

I recently purchased Sikky headers for my LM7 240SX swap project, and I noticed that the headers do not have a bung for the O2 sensor. I assume this is common for aftermarket headers. I have a few questions:
  1. I think the answer is no, but should I be adding a bung directly to the headers?
  2. Are adapters like Hedman Oxygen Sensor Reducers a good option? Has anyone used these before? Any recommendations on how to go about this?
  3. Somewhat related—when doing an LS swap, do I need to install or retain catalytic converters? My understanding is that cars older than 30 years (like a 1992 240SX) aren’t required to pass emissions testing. Does that mean I don’t need to run cats?
Thanks in advance!

I’m running ISR headers on my s13, they came with a bung already in place. They’re at further back end of them. Right before the flange where you connect your y-pipe. (Assuming you’re running single side exhaust all the way out the back)

O2 sensors good idea to use. Catalytic converter depends on where you live and what you’re going to do with the car.

I appreciate your response! I do plan to go with single exhaust, for now as the current goal is to get the car running. Your picture helps, I just wasn’t sure if I’m supposed to have the bung on the headers or after the flange. Regarding the cats, I dont think I need them because in Georgia, cars older than 30 years old don’t need emissions

A few inches after all the header tubes come together is a typical place for the O2 sensor. So, if the ends of your headers are compatible with the Hedman part, that should work well.
Agree that O2 sensors are a good idea.

o2 sensors are require for fuel injected setups, without them the air/fuel ratio can't be determined. I think you don't need them if you have a carburetor. I'll post some pictures of the headers later on today.

Ok, I checked both of my headers, and they do not have the bung hole for the o2 sensor. Also, I don't think there is enough room to add the bung hole, see video, because it needs to be about 6 inches from where the pipes merge/collect. I would appreciate any advice on this.

Not entirely correct. If the engine is running in open loop it is not using the O2 sensors even in a full fuel injection system. This is one of the reasons why it is important to tune the VE table or MAF curve well. There are people that actually run a speed density open loop only tune. I don't know why, but they do.

Exactly. Oxygen sensors only trim the air/fuel mixture. They allow real time fine adjustments to the values in the fuel tables. But they don’t by themselves determine the mixture. And they can only adjust the mixture so much - they CAN’T correct for a grossly mistuned ECU.
