Default Engine Stand ?

This is my first aluminum block engine to work on. Can I use a regular engine stand that bolts to the block on one end to hold the engine? I know it's a dumb question but I don't want to break the aluminum block or heads. Thanks, Steve

Hey Steve. As long as you get the bolts in at least 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch and tighten it up snug you should be ok. The engine is substantially lighter than the old cast iron blocks of old. J.C.

Thanks J.C. I knew it was lighter but I was afraid of the aluminum.

teh aluminmum is good and strong. i woudl suggest running a tap down teh botl holes and a die over the bolts first though. aluminum can gaul a lot easier than iron.

I would be careful with the tap and die. Whenever you use them they will remove material. Just lubricate the bolts you are going to use and go nice and easy.

I just had my engine on a stand and was thinking the same thing. But there is no worries just dont jump up and down on the front of the block.

Thanks guys. I may get the engine on the stand this weekend if I don't spend too much time at the Oreally Nationals that's in town.

For soft metals(cast iron, aluminum), the thread engagement should be twice the width of the bolt.

Or at least that's what I learned from reading Marlan Davis.
