Default New alternator placment

I'm installing an 98 ls1 into a 69 camaro and in order to to this I either need to noch my frame or move the alternator. Being that I can't weld and I don't want my frame changed in any way I need to move the alternator. I would like to change the placement of the alternator to be like a Corvette's. I know you can do this by getting a corvette alternator bracket but do you need to move the power steering pump? Does anyone have a list of things I would need.

grasshopper , go to the Street & Performance website www.hotrodlane.cc , the answers you seek are there.and in a polished billet! there is even a detailed article about an LS1 swap in a 1st gen camaro , plus views of the f-body LS1 and vette LS1.S&P ,LS1 swaps

remember you cant just move the alernator up . the crank pulleys are different for vettes also . you need vette brackets . , why move it up ? i have a camaro motor and the alternator clears great . not cutting or notching on mine

Look at this thread I'm not sure if it will work with the powersteering pump though. I don't have PS in my car.

My conversion is a different animal but I bought the vette bracket at a local dealer for $73 and moved the alternator up. There is a place on the bracket for the P/S pump but I'm not using it. I agree, you will need a vette crank pulley/balancer and you will also have to change your tensioner since it will be out of line. Also, the alternator is different on the vette. The space between the 2 mounting holes is 6" and I believe the f-body measures 5 1/2".

Do you guys know of someone making alternator brackets for the LS1 using an electric water pump? I know s&p makes'em for normal wp's. I want to mount the alt low on the drivers side. No other acc. Thanks for the help. Armen

WHY? Why do you need to do any of this?

I installed an LS1 in my car with the factory f-body alt with no problem...

what mounts are you using?

I am using S+P mounts, I don't have any bracetry or even the alternator and crank pulley. I am trying to figure out how I can mount the alternator on the lower drivers side w/o bolting tensionsers to the head, (I want it really clean looking) Does the camaro bracket have a built in tensioner? I am running a electric w/p, so the belt won't be going around it. There are no other acc. on the car, ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

I have a 98 vett motor in a ultima kit car. I made a bracket to mount the alt on the lower drivers side. I am runnind the meizer race electric water pump so the only accessory is the alternator. Here are some pictures






Mine was a little more complicated because I also needed a place to mount the crank trigger. Hopfully this will give you some ideas.

This is the way I originally had it, no welding required and I just used a generic alternator arm I had in the garage. My friend though the weight and tension from the alt would break off the aluminum tab on the block, that's why I incorporated the crack sensor holder into the alternator bracket.
