Putting a LS6 in a 1998 Trans Am possible?
Hey this might be a stupid question to ask but is it possible to put a new LS6 into a 1998 Trans Am? If so, is it just as easy as swapping it or do you need to do some modifications to the wiring or engine. Will everything bolt up such as the transmission. Thanks for any help

They are identical That's not really a swap, since they're technically the same motor.. Only difference is a small change in the internal block casting for improved windage, and then the different heads and cam. Every last bolt hole is identical, except for the valve covers -- 1998 got unique valve covers that mount the coils directly to the cover, where the 1999+ and LS6 have center bolt covers with coil brackets.

Why in hell would you do this swap, its the same motor basically! You"re throwing away your money and time.Get some ls6 heads and a bigger cam and ls6 intake, same thing much less work and money, really!! Sell your old parts to get some of your money back.

my motor has become hydro-locked from sucking up water through my ram air during a flood and i have to buy a new motor anyways. So i was looking into buying an ls6 motor instead of the ls1, what are your suggestions on that. Is it easier to just buy a new ls1 and buy ls6 parts or go with buying an ls6. If anybody has any excellent places for purchasing either a ls1 or ls6 motor. Thank you all for any input

All the sensors will bolt into the same places, the ls6 doesn't have an EGR system though. You will need to use your throttle body as well. Mild tuning is all you will require. To be honest your money would be better spend getting a rebuilt performance LS1 with matching tuning from a shop then getting a crate LS6. Start on the right side with the sponsers of this forum, do searches on them to see what others have said about their work.
