Default Is there a VIN# on my block?

Everyone keep asking for a VIN# to do programming or I have to buy one. Is the # on the block?

No, but there is a VIN programmed into the PCM. If you use ATAP, it will tell you what the VIN is.

The VIN in the PCM is the one that you're concerned with. You could find someone with AutoTap, HP Tuners, or you could just go to any GM dealer and have them hook it up to a Tech 2. I found an F-body guy on one of the other forums that worked at my local Pontiac dealer. He gave me his # and I called him, drove the car over there, and he just plugged the handheld into the ALDL.

The vin# in my ecm is for a V-6, so it want work. I thought there might be a # on the block I could use. I'll call around today and find a V-8/T-56 ecm.

You have a v-6 ecm working with the LS1 setup?? What is the ecm out of, i cant see it working with the LS1.

Yes the 2000 pcm will work with the 2001 motor, only difference is that the 2000 ecm will set an SES light for egr which you can have programed off of the pcm. They also have different size injectors, but if you are getting it tuned it shouldnt matter much, I dont think it will be that far off anyway.

The plugs and service # is the same as the V-6. But, it a service replacement ecm.
