Default LS1 swap headers?

What do you guys do for headers in conversion cars? Does anybody make the flanges or what are my other options?

Make them - or highly modify existing headers to work. What kind of car are you thinking about?

GM makes flanges, don't have the part number handy but you can probably find it via a search or an email to a GM parts dealer..

Try Street and Performance. Page 65 of their catalog....A few different configurations that might fit your application, i.e. tight truck, street rod, etc.

It'll be for my Trimph Gt6 swap, I haven't mocked up the install yet, but I am sure I'll need to fabricate the headers to get them to fit. I kinda want to fab them up even if I don't have to,
To the guys who made there own... what material did you use, mild steel or stainless? If mild steel, did you have them coated or leave them raw? Mine will be pretty noticeable in the car (since the bonnet tips forward) so I'd like them to look nice.
Any suggestions?

I "m making headers for an ls1 in a pro-stock type drag car, they"re 1 7\8 x30 with removable collectors(so I can try different types).I will say first you better be an experienced TIG welder and you better be blessed with the patience of Job!!!I used J- bends and U-bends from Hooker and the GM flanges, spent about 250.00 for bends and got the flanges for 20.00 on this site (for sale).I"ve spent about 3 days on each header as they are equal lenth, and had to re-do some tubes because they were too short or long.I still have to get collectors too! I f you don"t make them equal lenth it would be alot easier, also I paired 2 and 4 and 1 and 5 so if I use 4-2-1-collectors they would work. You can do it but be ready for the WORK!! BTW they"re steel.

check out the flanges from Kooks, they are the highest quality I have seen, and you can get any size, mild or stainless steel!! Way better quality than the GM flanges too!

what's a Trimph Gt6?

If you use mild you definitly want to have them coated or they will rust in no time.

My exhaust system was custom made by a friend of mine. Flanges and most of the pipe was from headers by ed. He used mild steal, which I then had jet hot coated with their 2000 degree coating. It's a ruff texture coating but it looks pretty mean. It took my friend 120+ hours to make my exhaust, so be prepared to spend some time making yours.

Here is a pic of a gt6

Thanks for the info on the flanges, I'd like to make my own, I am a good welder. I think I'll go with stainless if budget permits, It's nice to not have to worry about coatings or painting. I am not sure if I'll go equal length or not, I'll have to see about routing.

Thanks for all in info everyone, I can't wait to get started on the project.

Feel free to suggest a color for the paint too, it's red now, but the paint is crappy and needs a complete redo.
