Default 6500 miles behind...

I did finish my 99 LS1 + T56 to 70 Camaro swap last April. Now I have over 6500 miles behind. What a great engine to drive. I have had no problem at all with the engine. Well,I had the issue with police. They didnīt like when I was cruising 85 on 60 speedzone??! I got $500 ticket!! Then the 2 year old Carter TPI Fuel Pump fried. I did replace it with AC Delco unit. I hope it will last longer. Then I think the clutch doesnīt work propely. I have hard time to shift to the gear from neutral when the engine is idling. Feels like the clutch doesnīt release propely?? But still I have to raise the pedal over the inch when it gets the grip. Well, I read somewhere that early LS1 clutches had some problems. Maybe this is one.
Otherwise the LS1+T56 70 Camaro RS combo is awesome. I have modern technic but still I can enjoy feeling of driving old muscle car. I have more than enough power for street car but still I get good gas mileage so I can use the car on my daily drive. And itīs been so reliable that 1500 mile roadtrip is no problem what I did. So what I can say is, no more old iron carburetted gas suckers for me. And itīs easy to say when the gallon of gas is $5.50 here in Finland.....
Good luck for all with their projects...I can only recommend the LS1/LS6 engine to the all great muscle cars....But letīs not touch the orginal #s match cars...we do need to save some piece of history...

Mika,
Thanks for the update. I'll be glad when I get 1 mile under my belt. I was doing a frame-off restore when I decided to go with the LS1 so it will be a while before I get it rolling. What kind of gas mileage are you getting and what octane rating is it?

Similar experience here. I put mine on the road in April this year, it's been to Indy Raceway Park for 2 days of road racing, drove the whole way from NJ there and back with no problems. Also been to Pocono Raceway road courses 3 times this season, again driving there and home.

The LS1 is a super smooth engine with a very wide power band. 3rd and 4th gears and a 6200rpm rev limit with my 3.73:1 rear gearing are all I need most places, Indy needed 5th gear on the main straight. I love it!!

Oops so I should have let my 90 Iroc with a 5 speed alone?!? Oh well I am sure the new combo is going to be way faster than what that 305 TPI setup.

Iīm getting 17-24 mpg which is good I think for car over 300hp. Iīm using 95 octane gas. But we use different octane rating here in Europe. We also have 98 octane gas and 99 for old cars.

My next update is 3.73 gears and Eaton posi. I have now 3.27 dif and I think itīs too low for 6 speed. Everytime Iīm using 6th gear Iīm speeding, heh. And I got the proof for that, dam...

And the brakes what I have have to go. I took the car to the track month ago and after few laps brakes totally lost the grip. And I thought I had good brakes!! I have 4 wheel disc set up with 12" and 10,5" rotors with iron one piston calipers. Plan is use C5 Vette front brakes and LS1 F-body rear brakes with slotted and drilled rotors. I like to stick with GM stuff so getting parts is easier (cheaper) over here...

Yso Fast; Heh, yeah. You are good there. I ment more like classic cars from sixties and early seventies. Cars like Z28īs and SS BBīs. Chevelles with LS5 and 6.....3rd Gen with 5 liter definitely needed the LS1 under the hood.
