Auto Shifter in 3rd Gen Question

Auto Shifter in 3rd Gen Question I thought that the stock automatic shifter hook up for a third gen would hook right up to the 4l60e because its pretty similar to the 700r4, but they dont hook up the same way. Am I going to need to get a 4th gen shifter or shift cable or is there a way to hook up the stock third gen shifter cable and I am just not seeing how

I don't remember if I had to do it this way or not, but what I did was to weld the stub from a 4th gen shifter to the 3rd gen shifter and used the 4th gen shifter cable. That worked fine and since the 4th gen shifter cable was like new, I wanted to use it.
Like I said, I don't recall if it had to be done that way (probably not), but that's how I did it.
