Exhaust In First Gen W-ls1

I hava a 68 camaro, w-2000 LS1, (completly stock) I want to go with a full mandrel bent 3" exhaust w- x-pipe, My question is, with the 3" exhaust will I loose my bottom end torque. Salesman tells me to go with a 2.5".
I have seen some guys use 3" into the mufflers & 2.5" out ( to clear better around the rear axle)
Can anyone tell me what they have used or what the best set up is??
Also what mufflers sound good with the LS1?

if no one knows, what size did everyone here use with their ls1 coversion?????

Surely 3" would be too large unless you're dumping and not going over the axle. Plus 2.5" is all you would need with stock internals by far.

I had 3" duals on my 02 Z-28 with a x-pipe and 1 chamber Flowmasters dumped before the axle. I couldn't feel a loss of power. It ran better in my opinion. Best sounding exhaust I've ever heard. I'm gonna do the same on my '69 as well.

I have a 2.5 inch system in my RX7/LS6. In my opinion 2.5 is big enough and will fit much better than a 3 inch system.

I'm using dual 2.5" with a Spintech X pipe and muffler, flows plenty good. The guys at Spintech were also of the opinion that 3" was overkill.

I have a dual 3" system from Stainless Works on my '69 and it fits just fine over the axle. Definitely the best quality/fitting exhaust system I've ever had in any car.

Not shown are the over-the-axle pipes. Dual 2.5" exhaust would be suitable for 400 rwhp or less, but if you have plans on going higher later on, get the 3" now and be done with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but 3" tail pipes will not fit between the springs/gas tank and fender. My 2.5" barely fit. Of course '68s don't have tail pipes that extend so it may not be an issue.
