Question 3rd Gen Swap

This is my first post and I have a few questions, I'm kind of in a hurry so I didnt use the search, sorry.

I have a 1987 Trans AM GTA with the 5.7l TPI and automatic transmission, its pretty much stock. An acquaintance of mine has for sale a '02 LS1, its the aluminum corvette engine and it has only been run 7 minutes on a dyno, it was never in a car. He wants $1500 for it.

My questions are:
1) Will I need a new tranmission? If so which one?
2) What else will I need parts wise?
3) Is that a fair price for that engine?

Thanks in advance.

If your time is way too valuable to do a search, you must figure our time is worth less than yours.

I'd answer your questions, but I'm kind of busy.

I never said you had to post any thing. Someone directed me to this forum and said that the people on it were helpful. All I was looking for was some help answering my questions. I even apologized in my post for not searching, I'm sure theres been more than enough new members who didnt search who weren't treated like that. It's my first engine swap, I have no clue what I need, even if I thought I knew I would still ask here and hope someone would know. I hope there are some more considerate people on this forum that can ghelp me out. By the way I used the search and I still have no answers to any of those questions. However after googleing a few things I've come to the conclusion that I can use the same trans, is this right? I thought it would be easier to find out if the price was good but no luck on that either. Any HELP is appreciated.

www.thirdgen.org has an engine swap section with lots of answers and detailed pics of this in thirdgens. Buying the engine is just the tip of the iceberg but that is a good price if it's what he says it is. www.hawksthirdgenparts is a good source for the aftermarket stuff you'll need.

What does the engine come with (intake, exhaust, injectors, throttle body, coils)?
Because that stuff adds up quick. If you dont have a donor car remember none of your accessories will bolt up so you will need a new ps pump, alternator, starter, and all the brackets to go with it. Your transmission will bolt up but you will need a conversion flywheel because the crankshaft depth relative to the bellhousing mounting surface is different. Prepare to fabricate an intake setup and exhaust y- pipe depending on what headers or exhaust manifolds you use. Power steering hose, throttle cable, a/c lines are all different. If you want to use the ls1 a/c compressor you will need to cut and weld your crossmember. Factor in the pricey wiring harness and PCM. Unless you work at a GM dealer and you cant program the PCM so that will also cost you. Other than that it bolts right in. Fbody oil pan, driveshaft, torque arm all line up like it was designed that way. In the end it'll all be worth it though because it will be a blast to drive.

Oh yeah, if you have manual then yes you will need a new transmission, flwheel, clutch and shifter.
