You're better off putting in the sending unit for the gauge so that they are calibrated together. (The F-body LS1 doesn't have an oil pressure sender in it at all.)

Edit: I must have been sleeping when I wrote this.... I was thinking of the oil temp. They all have pressure senders.)

umm, my understanding is this:

the 98 Fbody had a oil pressure sending unit.

if you put a 98 sending unit in it, you can use that signal for the GM oil pressure gauge... and it matches the signal needed for my 91 camaro... i donno about your swap, but its GM, so its probly the same.

Just above the oil filter there is an aluminum cover (say 1.5" x 5/8"), that might have an untapped boss. You can put the sender there since that is part of the oiling system. The replacement Camaro part I bought did not have this boss. The Corvette ones are apparently tapped for a sender.

I used an '01 engine and harness, and connected its oil pressure gauge wire to my '82 instrument cluster oil pressure gauge. It indicates slightly lower than reality but consistent, checked against a mechanical capillary-tube gauge.

The '82 instrument isn't calibrated for the same resistance range as the '01 pressure sending unit, but it gets the job done. If I see the dash gauge go below 45psi, I know I have problems.

So...it won't likely hurt to try connecting the '01 sender to your aftermarket gauge, but I'd strongly recommend checking it against a known-accurate sender and gauge. I scrounged an extra plate as mentioned above, drilled & tapped for a 1/8" NPT fitting, and threaded in the old capillary tube gauge just to get readings. When done, I swapped the plate out (you could just thread a 1/8" plug in there).

Tap the boss that bolts on above the oil filter with a 1/8" NPT tap and install the factory oil sending unit in the tapped hole.

Which aftermarket gauge did you get? My Autometer one came with the sender. I put it in the tapped boss above the oil filter (as described above by Patrick_Rodgers) and plugged the stock pressure sender hole since the new sender wouldn't clear the intake.
