Default 6.0l Pan on LS1 in 72 Chev shortbox

Hey guys, Have a question here.

I have a friend that has an LS1 going into a 72 Chev shortbox and I have a 6.0l going into a 72 Chevelle. What I need to know is, will the 6.0l pan on the LS1 clear everything on the 72 Chev pickup? More oil the better but I can't use my pan and if my friend is willing to swap pans it'd would allow both of us to be one step ahead.

Thanks,

-Matt

The pan is 3" deeper so he just needs to know how much clearance he can afford.

He's going to be dropping the truck, but not too much seeing how he will have to travel a few gravel roads with a quad in the back... Also, him and his dad are building the engine mounts so having the motor sit a bit higher wouldn't be a big deal.

Any clue on the oilpan dimensions compared to a factory Chev 350? The truck pan looks to be no deeper then a SBC pan.

i beleive on street and performances website they have all of the dimensions of the diff oil pans so you could reference that and make some measurements.

the pan probably doesn't look any deeper, but on conventional sbc the pan is bolted to the block at the crank centerline, on a genIII the pan is bolted to the block at maybe 1.5" to 2" below the crank centerline.

There was a thread posted a week or so back comparing the F-body & truck pans. The pic I posted showed the truck pan being alomost 8" deep.

So I talked to him yesturday and he said he wasn't interested in doing the swap so my next question is....

If I get the difference from the truck pan cut out from the LS1(if that makes sence)... will they be the same or is there different hills and humps betwen the 2 pans?(essentially, besides the truck pan being deeper, are they the same from the side?) I'll just get this one cut down if all the other area's look the same. Now the bigger thing is. How much to I shorten the pickup tube?
