Default Alt bracket?? & crank/converter spacer??

does anyone have an alternator bracket (high) truck or vette? or know where to get one?

also im putting a TH400 w/ a sbc/bbc converter on the LS1. Is there a spacer that goes in the crank to make up the difference in space? where do you buy it? Or does anyone have any dimensions on it? i could make one on a lathe if i had dimensions.
thanks.

gm makes the spacer and the required bolts.
spacer: 12563532
bolt: 12563533
spacer is around $25 and the bolts are around $23 for a set of 6. i don't have the dimensions, i have a lathe as well and wouldn't bother for $25

i dont understand what it does. I figured just a spacer to go into the crank, extend out a little for the converter to slide in. why would you need different bolts? do you need space the flexplate out too? anyone have a pic?

Street & Performance has Alt Brackets for just about any configuration you can think of .They specialize in parts for conversions and street rods. The reason why I say this is I don't of any sponsor on here that seels this stuff. Be warned , however, they are NOT cheap , you're gonna spend some chedda'.

the spacer bolts on after the flexplate. crank , flexplate then spacer. the spacer is about 3/8" thick, hence longer bolts needed. it steps out at the center maybe 3/4" to support the converter hub. it's basically just an extension.

You also would need the 6.0L flexplate to go with it.

ok, i thought about it and figured thats how it probably went. I baught a flexplate off ebay for $9. and not sure if its a 6.0, 5.7 or what but my converter does match up to 3 of the holes. hopefully this works. I'll buy that spacer and bolts from GM. i needed bolts anyway.
i think i'll just fab my own alternator bracket.

thanks for the info everyone.

That's great that the converter matches the holes but what a lot of people forget is that when you put the spacer in and move the flexplate out 3/8", you've just moved the teeth on the gear 3/8" AWAY from the starter! You'd hate to put it all together only to find out that when you engage the starter, it doesn't even reach the flexplate teeth.

That's why the 5.3/5.7 flexplates are dished and the 6.0 flexplate is FLAT. They flattened it to bring the teeth back to the starter.

i didn't think the spacer had any thing to do with what flexplate you needed. it doesn't change the depth of the flexplate, it goes on after. the only thing that determines what flexplate you need is the crank you are using, the early 6.0 crank(flat flexplate) or everything else(dished flexplate)?

I made my own on a lathe. Uses stock length bolts with no starter problems. Just machined it to fit around the flange the flywheel sits on , and fits around the hub of the convertor.
