6.0 in 71 GMC 4x4
1. is there a certain year(s) 6.0 i should look for?
2. i have a sm465 manual trans that i would like to keep. does the 6.0 share the traditional chevy bellhousing pattern? what problems would i have with the clutch and flywheel?
3. what should i do for wiring harness?
4. what type of fuel delivery is needed?
5. what would be a good low end heads/cam package? i figure ill have to get a custom ground cam that would concentrate on a nice flat torque curve.
6. what type of motor mounts are needed?
-I would look for a 2001-up engine.
-Not sure about using your sm465, but they do make kits to use an nv4500-check advance adapters
-You should definitely use a speartech wiring harness
-You will also need an electronic fuel pump, but you can just connect an inline pump upstream from the tank I am pretty sure, and just use compression fittings to mate the old feed & return to the newer feed & return on the 6.0 fuel rail
-If you get a 2001 up 6.0, then it will come with alluminum heads, then all I would suggest is getting a nice valve job and some aftermarket springs and rockers. Then calling up comp cams and having them grind you a custom cam. And also definitely go longtube headers, and some other small stuff like a nice filter, and an underdrive pulley and small stuff like that.
-You will need to have custom mounts made, or you can try the b&p or s&p motor mounts since they are for old school sbc.
Hope this sheds some light.
