Default Evap/Purge system

I am a bit confused here. I am running a painless harness on an LS1 in a 69 Camaro. It works with 1998 F body systems.

It comes with a Purge/Vent evap connection in the harness.

I am running a 1996 Caprice tank and was able to get a Vent solenoid and charcol can from a late model truck.

I was doing some research and learned the factory systems (1998 to present) use a map type vacuum sensor on the tank that is part of the system self diagnostic and decision process.

I want to use the vent system to keep fuel smell to a minimum (like any ordinary late model car), and keep everything in check.

Painless claims this system will still work regardless of the tank sensor.

Anybody been down this road?

The system will work fine without the tank vaccum sensor. This is used only to determine the sealing capabilities of the fuel tank system. All you need to do is hook up the evap purge solenoid on the intake and then run the vacuum line to the charcoal canister. Then hook the other end to the 1/4" line that runs to the tank in the rear. You do not need to hook up the tank vent solenoid on the tank in the rear this solenoid is normally open with no power applied which is what you need. It would only close the tank vent and then open the evap purge if it was running full evaporative emissions and checking for system integrity in stock form .

Thank you! So, I assume I will need to have the computer reprogrammed to turn off the trouble code I will get for the tank purge system. Other than that it looks like a go.

If your pcm has stock programming it will set an ses light. Any of the programs from sponsors will let you turn off the ses with no trouble.
