california SMOG!!!!!
I guess it helps that the smog refs themselves don't know the rules. How are you guys in Texas getting it done? I'm going to need some help with this in a few months when I get to the stage of getting this thing on the road.
That's only b/c you live in houston... most cities in texas don't have smog ref.. the only ones i know or are dfw and houston.. and only some of the dfw shops carry the smog equipment.. san antonio doesn't have it nor austin.. just depends on where you live in the state.. i had no emesions stuff on my 89 camaro with an LT1 swap.. egr is gone and the cats all that crap is gone.. went and got it inspected, no questions asked about it the just slapped the sitcker on... you might wanna try one of the neighboring small towns outside of h-town and see if you get any luck out there... usually they just make sure your seat belts work and all the lights work and they'll give you the sticker =D
Example: The calendar year is 2004- 29 = 1975 exempt year model
The current calendar year minus 29 equals the year model exempt from smog certification.
Vehicles exempt from smog certification are listed above.
Note: Starting April 1, 2005, the smog exemption for vehicles 30 model years old or older will end. After that date all 1975 and older vehicles will be exempt from smog certification requirements.
So in actuallity, it is based off the model year. Hope this clears up any confusion.
because all it does is give me a headahce and **** me off. thank you again...The first question they asked me was for a vin number of the LS1 vehicle. I didnt have one for him. Then he asked if it was a complete pull out. I assured him that the entire LS1 was out of the same car. Im assuming if he knows you mixed and matched parts from diffrent years he going to fail you. Adjustable fuel presure regulators are illegal in california, and they do look under the vehicle with a mirror to check what you got. So that leaves you with one option. The factory Ls1 pump has the fuel vapor presure sensor mounted to the top of it. The charcoal canister has the vent valve atached to it. While your driving your ecu randomly checks if there are leaks in evap system. If the sensors are missing or not conected properly the check engine light will come on and the BAR will fail you. You dont need to retrofit the entire camero tank but you are going to need the charcoal canister and the fuel vapor presure sensor. I made a plate to retrofit the LS1 pump to the stock Rx7 tank. The stock ls1's fuel pump has a spring loaded basket making its hieght adjustable. Therfore easily adapting to different size fuel tanks. You could probably avoid using the Ls1 fuel pump by hiding a fuel presure regulator out of sight and adapting the fuel vapor pressure sensor to your tank. They will check the fuel evaporative controls so those sensors need to be hooked up, and your evaporative system must be free of leaks.

I really hate to break it to you, but I dont think that a 944 LS1 conversion could ever be legal, from what I understand. Its a transaxel, correct? From what I understood the ref was saying, you have to use the same tranny that was in the donor car, meaning you have to use a 4l60e or a t56.
Im not 100% sure on that though.
Born Again and I have been working back and forth, and luckily the RX7 tank top is larger than the LS1 intank pump, so we were able to fab an adaptor. Maybe with the 944, you can fab a fuel cellish system with the LS1 pump?
