2nd gen fbody ls1
2nd gen fbody ls1 looking to put an ls1 in an 81 camaro, if i bought the enigne and computer/harness as a whole what would i need to make it run, do they run off of theyr own systems once they have power from a battery to start them, or do they need other electronics. i dont know anything about ls1s/fuel injection yet.

You might try saving yourself the trouble and going with Speartech or one of several harness retrofit companies out there to do the wiring part for you if it is that much of a concern. The LS1 engines are fairly self contained and can be made to run with little more than 4 or 5 wires spliced in to your vehicle (After modification of the engine harness). But if you want full functionality of the car just like it was before the swap, you may want to look in to someone else doing it and saving the headache.
i would have full functionality of the car, it doesnt have a harness now.. being that its carbed and no electical. it jhas a wire for alt, and some for the starter, the chassis electrical is sepertaly wired already.

Well then, you can pretty much just make the engien run by supplying the ignition wires(pink) with ignition power, and the batt+ wires (orange) with batt power.
That is a pretty simple way to say it.
Although, for safety sake, you may want to get the schematics on the donor car so you can fuse the circuits correctly. The only other thing you would really need is something to bypass or eliminate the VATS.
