OH GOD!! do not do that. the hard top cars are pretty rare... everyone has T-top but hard tops are hard to come by.

Exactly.

If you MUST convert it to something, look up Whistler and have him convert it to a true targa top.

you need to cut off your top/bars. you need the t-tops, you'll need to put t-top seals in.

theres other stuff but thats just the basics.

If i were going to do it, i would try to locate a whole roof and pillars from the junk yard. Cut off the the old roof mid pillar somewhere, then weld then new one back on.

this is a very bad decision.

they are bad enough as they are and will be even worse if made after market.

you will lose much value of car and it will weigh more and flex more.

do yourself a favor and sell it and get another car with T-tops. dont ruin the car.
but dont say no one told you

It is NOT that scary, or that hard.

You do not need to cut the roof off of a factory t-top car to do the conversion. Everything is right there, just cut the bars, and attach the hardware. If it was me i would buy a factory roof cover for t-tops and have it painted, but you can simply cut your stock one, and it works fine. Cutting the whole roof off, would be a bad idea and would weaken the unibody.

t-top cars are not as bad as the 3rd gen cars people remember.

While hardtops are cool, if i want one of them i'll get a FRC vette, until then, i'll see you all at the beach with girls hanging out of the t-tops

I talked to a guy at a car show yrs ago , he had a beautiful '79 Trans Am (BLK/BLK) with t-tops made by a shop. I asked him if they leaked and he said this was the only t-top car that didn't leak that he's owned- he was so happy with the way they came out, but he did say it cost him(approx.$2000.00). I never got the name of the shop because I had t-tops on my '79 T/A (and yes ... mine leaked !!). I would love to put t-tops on my '74 Camaro, but that would be phase 4. Phase 1 : get car running; Phase 2 :work out the bugs; Phase 3: save money for Phase 4, 5, 6 etc.....
