Default Trailblazer straight 6..

anyone swaped a Trail Blazer straight 6 into another car? i have the opportunity to have this engine for 300$.. i dont know what else it would fit.. but its rated at 275hp.. seems like a cool swap.. i dont even know what other tranny's it bolts to..

I bought one of these engines with plans to turbocharge it and install it in an old Nova.

I havn't done anything with it yet, but I think an adapter plate will have to be made in order to bolt it up to most transmissions. (Unless the bellhousing from a trailblazer will bolt up to a regular rwd 4l60)

It's a different bolt pattern on the bell housing.




We've harnessed and set up 3 of them here as test engines.

Good luck with the PCM! We had to get custom flashed ones from GM engineering to get them running. Maybe that will change if there's enough aftermarket interest in this engine.

It really would kick *** in a car. My mom's Trailblazer has yet to lose a race...only raced a 97 V6 stang and same year Grand Prix GT but undefeated nonetheless. One sweet motor thats for sure.

I would like to put one of these sixes in a 30's roadster, I think it would be a great combination. You just need the correct 4L60E bellhousing.

I read in Hot Rod that John Cunningham was going to turbocharge one and put it into a 60's Nova Wagon and run it at the next Pump Gas Drags.

when these first came out.. Car&Driver TV showed the Baja guys had one in a truck that was making 700hp..

i just think that GM should Make this engine for cars instead of heavy SUV's.. imagine putting one of these in a 3rd gen camaro and then smoking some V8.. and saying you killed him with an N/A straight 6?? ahahha rad

i have a trailblazer, its freaking fast as hell for what it is. ive only lost one race and it was to an m3, he hole shot me, yes i have all wheel drive, but its a lot of vehicle to get moving haha. i even beat a 97 jeep cherokee with a 5.2 v8 in it from a light. point is, its an amazing motor and they do last, ive seen a bunch of already 100k+ TB's kickin strong. id love to see some aftermarket parts come up for this motor, i wouldnt mind having a little extra "towing" umph hahaha

If anybody need 4.2 trailblazer engines I have them as cores or ready to go.
they are really hot with a turbo setup

Right after that motor came out Clifford Performance had a project '70 Chevy truck they were going to put together with the 4.2L and a single turbo. I lost track of the project but would love to see the finished product.

i dont kno bout the rest of you but i absolutely HATE this motor-yes it puts down good power, and yes it is realiable, and yes its CHEAP-BUT DAMN if it doesnt get ENOUGH air it sucks down the gas-if theres not enough exhaust flow it sucks it right down-the Electronic throttle body it comes with is a major POS so slow to react-i just can not stand this motor especailly it being in my dads 2002 Trailblazer-i dont kno what it is but to me its a major POS

It is not a very reliable motor and is drive by wire which will make it a challenge to swap into something else. Just my $.02

Seems like you could get an FI car up and running, blow up the motor, and the motor is cheap enuff that you can build one on the side.

How about bolting one of those up in a 93-02 4th gen?

They do not directly bolt up to a th400, but We make an adpt. that will use the stock 4.2 bellhousing and it fits up to or th400 case and pump that we use for the c-5 conversion.
That will fit in the same place and mounting as the 4l60-e

I just had a thought about one of those into an older 4x4 jeep cherokee with chevy drivetrain. Even in an s10 or a jeep wrangler that thing would be sweet.

Drive by wire shouldn't be a problem. The wiring harness would come with the engine, just make sure to get the pedal from the donor with the works on it, and wire it in. If necessary, make a custom harness to go from the pedal to the computer's harness. I think the drive by wire is driven by the computer based off input from the pedal, since the drive by wire system is supposed to allow the computer to control how fast the throttle comes in, and allow it to control throttle when slippage is detected on models with traction control.

if you manage to rig it up please advise me! I can not stand it on my dad's trailblazer-and since I've been mentioning it, it has become a nuissance to him as well

I have had my Trailblazer for 3 years now and have never had any issues with the drive by wire throttle body.
