Default Old Flywheel on 5.3

Quick question: Will the flywheel off a 77 350 work on a gen III 5.3? I am aware of the difference in backspacing that requires a different pilot bearing. But will the 350 ring gear match up with the 5.3 starter?

Thanks

There's no way it will bolt to the crank, the center hub and bolt pattern aren't compatible.

How about a later small block one that has a one piece rear main? Has any one tried one of those?

What about having a machine shop cut the center out and weld in the correct center?

Well shucks, why not just weld the tranny input shaft to the crank so's ya don't even need a flywheel?

(binga binga bing bing binga binga bing)

I guess just buying the right flywheel is out of the question...

It's not out of the question, just more expensive. It also makes sense to me to try to reuse a bunch of parts that are in pristine condition.

Just put them on eBay and make sure you put "RARE" in the description, you'll get top dollar.
