Default Which should I go for LS1 or LS6

Well I am starting to learn alot more about shoving a LS something into the Blazer X and I even met a guy today that has the same truck with an LS1 in it. I want to get a crate engine so basically I can get either. The thing is that eventually I will want more power (don't we all?) should I just buy an LS6 so that I already have the better heads and then later just throw a cam and intake with the accompaning valve train. Or should I just save some $$$ upfront buy an LS1 and than later on go off and buy heads and such. Really I guess the question is how good are the LS6 heads vs. aftermarket offerings?

if you plan on upgrading, get the ls1. then get a nice heads/cam package from one of the sponsors.

crate? Get the LQ9 complete with computer etc, or the LS6 complete set-up. The extra 90lbs of teh iron block won't matter much, and you're waaaay ready for FI if you wanted. They are like $3800-4200 complete, depending on where you go, and even have soem accessories. You can always get a LS1 intake for free or next to it, if teh truck is to tall (not to mention low rpm range) or a LS6 intake for $325

Well i'm definatley gonna go with one of the all aluminum mills as it is I'm trying to trim some weight off the damn truck as delivered she weighed 3800lbs w/o my 225lb *** in her. I figure I can get her down to around 3600lbs with some things I got in mind. But what I'm thinking is that I could get the LS6 and then just throw a comp cam, valvetrain and then maybe a FAST intake and a matching TB at it and I shouldn't have to mess with the heads. I mean aren't the LS6 out of the box pretty good? About all I would be looking to get is about another 100hp at the fly that should be more than enough.

****, get a LS1, if your switching intakes and cams and ****. The FAST set-up is over $1000, and you can't really beat a LS6 drivetrain. Get a LS1 and buy AFR heads and FAST stuff, you'll be about the same price and more HP
