Default Quick Change Rear's...?

Quick Change rearends...
I've always wondered how they work and why they are so great.
I've done a little searching but to no avail on specifics. So anyone have some info for me?

Thanks

a driveshaft is hooked to the lower shaft in the quickchange, from there power is transfered through a set of quickchange gears(what you see from the back), with the upper gear being splined to the pinion and the lower gear splined to the lower shaft. common ring and pinion ratio's are 4.11 and 4.86. you multiply those ratios by the ratio of the quick change gears you are running. naturally a gear set with 28 teeth on both gears would give you the ring and pinion ratio(4.11 or 4.86). there's usually a couple for sale on ebay with pictures to give you an idea of how they work.

Speedway motors sells quick cange rears. The big advantage is you can change the gear ratio in about 20 min. Ive been told they have a loud whine, because they use a strait cut gear. I think it would be a lot of fabracating to put one in a f-body.

QCs are great for the gear change, but the truly badass thing about them is the BIG ring gear, usually 10 inches but have seen some as big as 12!!!
