Default driveshaft swop 3rd gen

What is the best way to go for the 3rg gen driveshaft swop with the aftermarket crossmember can i still use my factory drive shaft or will it have to be shortened?? is there an aluminum driveshaft out of a newer fbody that will work ith stock rear end????

Any 4th gen driveshaft can swap with a thirdgen drive shaft and you can use your stock one assuming your talking about an ls1 swap. i believe most of the ls1 driveshafts are 3.5 in(?) aluminum, some were 3(?) in steel possibly and i think most of the lt1 driveshafts were steel i think, dont quote me. I picked up an aluminum driveshaft out of a 4th gen ls1 for like 100 bucks...i figured it would hold up to the power im going to be putting out and its a decent bit lighter than my old steel one.

yes sorry i am talking ls1 swop haha i was just wondering cause i know the 4th grn 4l60 trni needs to be moved back about 1-2 inches on the crossmember, so i figured maybe the 4th grn driveshaft might be shorter but thanx im glad i can use my aluminum one had built.

the driveshaft lengths are the same from 1984 until 2002.

with the exception of 82 and some 83 cars, the 3rd and 4thgen fbody driveshaft dimensions are the same...

I dont supose u know why the trani has to be mounted farther back?? is it becasue the tail stock is shorter or something like that casue if thats the case why couldn't you simply replace it with a longer one of the 700r4 to move the mounting points back to normal??????therefore only having to make engine mounts

No the tranny cant be shorter because the driveshaft are universal from third gens to fourth gens. I think just the mount is located at a different place on the trans. As far as I know of the 700R4 and 4l60e are pretty much identical in dimension except ls1 4l60e's have differnt bellhousings.

*I forgot about those early thirdgens...they had a different trans right? what was it, not a 200r4 was it?
