hey. i didnt really no where to put this so i put it here..1st off no im not putting a ls1 in one..im not even wanting to put a v8 in it really,.but i have zero exp with mustangs so i figured someone out there could help me..im consdiereing buying an 85 mustang a guy here has for sale..its got the factory carb'd 4 banger in it..TO tell you the truth..i kind of would like to keep it.. reason being..im buiding my 94 TA with a sbc for drag, i have my 4x4 for a daily driver right now and it gets in the neighborhood of 8mpg MAYBEE....these gas prices are killing me..i searched high and low for a fuel injection kit for the 4 cyld but really didnt find much..i dont know what kind of mpg to expect with teh carb on it..(thats if everything is tuned perfect )..being the muscle head i am..i DID remotely think about the 5.0 swap just with a factory pull out mustang motor but dont know what kind of mielage i would get..if i could get about 15 out of it i would consider the swap..what about a 6 cyl..? anyone know of a conversion for it..i have not had much time to research it bc im just now thinking of buying the car..any help from you fellow rustang drivers would be appreciated..oh yea it has the auto tranny...

87-88 4 banger "beater" Mustangs routinely change hands for $500-$800. They are already fuel injected. Forget the 85 and look for an 87-93 on the cheap. 87-90 have 88hp and 91-93 have 105hp. I strongly recommend trying to find a 5 speed one, as the auto ones are dangerously slow.

I just picked up a 90 4 cyl for 800 and yes it is slow

paid $90 for my 85 carb SROD notch. Going 2.3T power for a while with a BIG ******* Holset turbo. That will last for a year or two until I can get the $$$ and time for the LS1/T56
BTW, 25mpg with a carb 2.3

Obviously if you can get the car for under $100 it's worth it. However, any more than $300 and I'd be looking for a 87-93.

TA, get you a holley intake for the 2.3 and a Holley 390CFM 4 barrel. Then set it up with a T-bird turbo coupe exhaust manifold and turbo as a blow-thru system. I've seen it before, and it seems to work about as good as you can expect a blow-thru to work.

I've already got most of the stuff coming in various cars, not to mention the 2.3T motors are forged and I plan on running 25+psi
