Not sure how to post a pic in here but I have a chevelle and extended the harness to locate it inside the car under the dash, it is mounted to the the air box. I couldn't seem to make it look nice on the inside of the engin compartment.

Mine is on the pass. side fender as well. I'm considering mounting it behing the glovebox though after I get it running. I'd like it to be hidden but still somewhat accessible.

Speartech told me it was too much work to extend the stock harness so that the pcm could be mounted inside. If i did not have a harness i would have got one to mount the pcm inside the car behind the glovbox but with my budget it was just not possible at the time.

with the magic of a 2" holesaw (or whatever the size is, i forget, do a search on my name) you too can have a harness that fits it behind the dash.

the only downside is, the hole has to be big enough to fit the largest connector (the PCM connectors) thru...

think about where the PCM is on a stock Fbody... waay off to the side, tucked on the firewall... just shove it thru the firewall closer to the motor, and its long enough for MOST cars already.... if nothing else, you could make it fit under the dash.

just so you know, i was told the same thing.. it wont fit with the stock harness...

i tried 3 diffrent PCM mounting locations, and i was not happy with any of them... it just doesnt look/fit right underhood...

so i measured.
then measured

then scratched my head, wondering.... why do people say it wont fit? i think it will.....?

then i looked online... still nothing.. couple people mentioned it, but no details....

so i measured a 3rd time.... then bit the bullet and drilled a hole in my precious firewall...(actually 2 holes. one for the engine harness, the other for all the other wires) it all fit. i couldnt believe it, but it all fit... i redid my wiring again to account for it (i demand perfection from my wiring... i did it 3 times from moving stuff around)

but its now safely tucked underdash, with the stock wiring. i couldnt be happier about it. my reccomendation to anyone would be to figure out a way to do it... mounting it underhood in a older swap car just doesnt look right most of the time..

Instead of cutting a huge 2" hole in the firewall, you can get away with a smaller hole and feed the harness thru, eg start with the hole harness inside the car and pass the smaller harness endsthru, injectors wiring etc, leave the big end in the car.

PCMs and wires are pretty ugly parts, I'd try my hardest to hide that stuff under the dash. I made a bracket out of 1/8" flatbar and welded it to the underside of my top dash/firewall panel. The PCM sits at an angle, and can be lifted right out of this hoop that holds it.

thats a good idea except, the entire wiring harness bundle itself is ALMOST 2" so you're only saving yourself about a 1/8" in dia..

Default Ecm mounting

I'm wondering if anyone has attempted mounting the computer behind the kick panel. I've a 67 camaro, have the EMC on the floor right now to test, but thinking about pulling the kick panel and hiding it behind the panel.

Anyone attempted this?

Probably just have to extend the harness maybe. It's been so long since I did mine.

PS you'll probably catch slack for bumping an almost 7 year old thread, which might be a record though
