Need Feedback on Conversion
I have a complete 99 Z28 with LS1 and 4L60E in my garage. This car has a built engine in itthat dyno'd 388 RWHP. The car is for all practical purposes totaled. I have the complete car minus seats and a few other insignificant parts, so keep this in mind. My Monte SS will be showroom perfect once I get her back. ( Got hit in the rear back in January) She currently has the H.O. 305 with a fresh 700R4 with shift kit. (2004R started giving me problems.)
1. Should I drop the LS1 in and keep the 700R4, or go ahead and transplant the 4L60E?
2. Should I set the LS1 up with the fuel injection or try the carb setup from edelbrok?
3. If I go with the fuel injection, should I use the guages out of the Z28 and transplant them into the monte or should I start out fresh?
4. Is it possible to use my Monte guages or am I asking for trouble?
5. Should I notch the front crosmember for the oil pan or should I have oil pan modified to clear it?
I am trying to get a plan together so when I get the car back I will have something to go by. My reason for going with the carb setup is because it is byfar the simplest to do. No computer, No electric fuel pumps, no tranny computers, you get the idea. On the other hand, I would like to have a car that is for all practical purposes "stupid proof" so any one could get in and drive it. (like my wife, but don't tell her I said that"!!!!)

As far as some of your questions go, I can't give you any Monte specific advice, but I can say that you will be better off using the 4L60e if you're keeping the FI system. If you get a software package like EFI Live or HPtuners you'll have much more flexibility in setting shift firmness and speeds with the 4L60e.
