I had a 4" under there pretty snugly. You can see here where I routed it before

Is this the same car you always had Kurt? Thought you sold it?

I sold the engine, trans, efi and fuel system. Not the car.

Yo Robbie whats up! Havent talked to you in a while. Going to warped tour next month?

Still need to add some bracing to the main plate, but thats prety much how its going to be.

1 5/8" diameter chromoly vertically, 1" piece horizontally, and a 3/8" thick steel plate for the mount.

I've got a question. What is the reason for running motor mount plates, instead of using regular motor mounts on the crossmember? I've just never seen that before.

It creates more room to run headers. Also allows me to position the engine where I want it to be which creates some advantages on the drag strip.

also, even on solid motor mount replacements (something that would have to be fabbed anyway on a LS1 3rdgen), the motor still moves a bit.

it wont move at all with the motorplates.... so he can solid mount the turbo without flex worries.

personally, id address that with a flex joint, but you'd have to ask him how hes doing it... some designs dont have any "room" for expansion, but have minimal problems..

since this is obviously a drag only car, i doubt its a issue..... but im curious if he is doing anything.... care to comment Guido?

Thanks for the insight. I have a couple more questions though if you'll indulge me. I'm sure they will sound stupid to some of you, but I have to ask. What are you securing the mount plates to, on the body? Do you have to build some sort of support brackets to strengthen the mounting point? How do you install any accessories with the motor brackets installed. Or because its a drag car do you not run any accessories anyway. I suppose you wouldn't need an alt, power steering or air in a drag car, so maybe I just answered my own question

Ill have an alternator and a crank pulley.
Ill also be using a water pump although Im using a remote mounted electric one.

The motor plate shown is going to be swapped out if I can ever manage to get a new one drawn and cut. I did that one by hand with a plasma cutter and it turned out terribly. Lesson learned. Fortunatley I have enough aluminum left over to recut them but I want it DEAD ON this time and no **** ups. When i get the motor plate recut, Im only putting two round holes on each side where the water pump bolts up and welding some AN fittings on to attach braided line to. Ill put the water pump in the passenger battery tray or something. Wherever it goes, it will leave me plenty of room for all the tubing going in there.

I have a 1/4" angle welded onto the passenger side frame that the plate bolts to, and 11ga. steel formed and welded into the frame/wheel tub area on the drivers side. Its QUITE sturdy. There will also be a round rod attached to the factory motor mount bosses and the other end secured to the frame to prevent the motor from shifting forward or backward. It will be quite secure once its all said and done

That's sexy... I like how you mounted the turbo to the core support. VERY nice. Can't wait to see it all done.
