Default Which year harness/PCM preferred?

I'm gathering parts for my build and have a '98 and '02 harness here. Which is preferred for changing to a stand-alone setup? Any items/sensors that connect to the harness that are better between these years? Any items that are cheaper between these years?

Thanks,
Allan

Ditch the 98 and run the 02 hands down. Far easier to tune and you won't have to re-pin to run a newer computer.

Edit: Only way you can run a newer computer on a 98 harness is to re-pin it. Thats why you should go with the 02 Harness, that way you can run 99-02(in Camaro's and up to 04 for Corvette?)

I suggest the 99+ setup as well.

I use that setup on my conversion car and tune it with HP Tuners.

Yes, You got the painless harness. You should have reworked the 02 harness or had someone do it.

The people on this board like to be able to run speed density for tuning, and a 2001-2002 computer makes that easier, since there is just 1 VE table.

There are probaly more 1998 comptuer conversion on the road today, since painless, and GM performance parts use the 98 pcm for their crate motors and conversions. so no, it is not a "bad" computer, just different. (limited support from the tuning sponsors as far as OS modifications, 2 bar, ect)

its just because its diffrent.

you have 4 years of fbodys with the 99+ style, and one year 98 style... the computer itself is slower and doesnt have the support, or features of the later PCM.

if you dont need thoes, then it does not matter... but if you want the latter PCM support and features, then you need the later wiring harness...
