I think the general consensus is about 100 lbs.

it isnt a 100#.
buddy and me weighed the blocks.
the ls1 aluminum block is 48# lighter than a 2 bolt 350.
i dont know where the 100# rule came from, i thought this was true as well.
im sure the crank and cam in an ls1 weigh in more than a small block.
i just dont see how it can be that much lighter.

Don't forget most times a regular small block chevrolet has heavy cast iron cylinder heads, and a cast iron water pump. That would account for most of the rest of your $100 lbs.

comparing aluminum headed motors. i see only a block difference.
i didnt think about it, but an iron headed motor will get close to the 100 pound #.
i forgot they made iron heads.

There is also the composite intake and the fact that the rods and piston's are lighter also.

Not sure if the question is the complete motor, tall block or? If you look at the complete motor, the LS1 comes in at somewhere between 390 - 425lbs....that includes everything from complete electronics to headers. Compare that to an SBC with everything from carb to headers, and I think the 100lb difference (or more, I suspect) will reveal itself. Iron head SBC I believe to be 530lbs (not complete).

BTW, can someone verify the LS1 weight (complete). I think Sallee advertises 390lbs for their crate motor, others' claim up to 425lbs.

If you want to find the real weight loss, don't forget that the T56 is much heavier than the Muncie 4 speed.

Just about everything is lighter on the LS1, even the camshaft is hollow vs solid for the SBC. 100 pounds is a good ballpark figure.

....all I know for sure is that my LS-1 weighs about 20 pounds more than the 21 stud flathead Ford engine that it replaced.......and roughly three times more power.

the camshaft is hollow, but it seems heavier to me.. compared to a billet roller for a SBC, i think its pretty heavy.
i should have weighed it, but i was in a rush to put it in.
