Default HELP conversion wont start no fuel?

hey all I have tried to start my truck with no luck. What I have is a 68 pickup with a 5.3., painless harness and a Nelson Tune. I have checked and have spark and about 48 psi at the fuel rails this may be low I an not sure but thought it should still start.
I pulled a couple plugs and cant see or smell any fuel.
Allens instruction mention something about a pass key relearn I assume since my VATTS are off this is not something I need to do I assume...
The motor sat for about 2 years I did not pull the intake or injectors and hopped I didnt need to.
any help would be great. I am ready to get this running!

if it sat for that long, your injectors may be gummed up so that they won't open. i had this issue when i did my 408. i used the old injectors that had sat for who knows how long and they wouldn't even open. grab a mechanics stethescope and see if they are firing.

Mine wouldn't start with less than 50psi fuel pressure.

I think your injectors are stuck. Use a noid light to see if you are getting injector pulse. If so then here is the way I have got them to fire........use something like a 8 inch long 3/8 socket extension and use the big end to wack the injectors while someone else is cranking the engine. You have to smack them near the top, on the metal part. The object is to hit it hard enough to break the valve loose but not to crush or break the injector. Once it starts it will probably run rough so just have someone keep it running while you continue to beat alternately on the injectors. You should hear it smooth out each time you get another one firing.

Side note: My first 6 liter was a salvage yard motor and I had the same prob-wouldn't start-no fuel. I used this procedure and got it running and it started right up and finally ran smooth. I went to the track and was disappointed-it ran the same times as the 5.3 had been running. I swapped in my 5.3 injectors which I knew were not plugged up and it picked up 3 to 4 tenths at the track the next week. So my advice is if the injectors are stuck, once you get it up and running you probably need to have them cleaned. Good luck.

thanks guys I will check with a noid to see if they have power. It also sounds like my fuel pump may not be strong enough.

It won't start unless it has 50psi. A friend that owned a repair shop showed me this. If it has under 50psi it will not start but a little whiff from a can of ether they fire right up.

I've seen people raise the complete injector/rail setup out of the whole about an inch, hold it up 1" out of there hole and get someone to crank engine, you should them squirt or not.

just to report, all teh injectors were indeed stuck. I raised the rail up and had my son turn it over while I tapped and got them all to fire. I reinstalled and it hit off right away, I havent ran it yet but it will start. Thanks again for all the help. I will keep you posted as I proceed...

Congrats on the progress! And thanks for following up w/ the report, it will help somone down the road when they do a search.

I'd run a bottle of Techron injector cleaner thru it just to clean things up.

For the other guy that posted, the best deal on cleaning and flow testing I've found is Rich at www.cruzinperformance.com

$12/injector to clean and flow test, includes new filter baskets and o-rings.

boy that is amazing as soon as I got them all to squirt and reinstalled I dont even think it turned over once and fired right up! No idle problems or anything. Of course it is stock but still it is starting and sounding great. A few more things to finalize and go for a drive!
Tahnks again

Did you change the rail pressure??? Mine (fbody engine) started and ran on less than 40 lbs of pressure (we had a ground problem with the fuel pump and that was all it would put up) glad to hear that you got it running....it's amazing how well these engies will run even after they have been sitting for awhile.

Congrats on getting her up and running. Funny what a little gas can make a motor do, huh? hehe

I would run a few bottles of Techron through it and if it seems OK I would say go with it. If not then you may have to have them prof. cleaned, I have been using Marren Motorsports (www.injector.com) for about 10 yrs-great service.

As a side note, I knew mine had ran on less than 50 psi so I went out this weekend and cranked the regulator down and it would start all the way down to about 28 psi. 28 was about 20 with vacuum and it would idle but was pretty rough. I have Bosch injectors so maybe the different types take more/less pressure to fire? Anyways glad you got it going now go have some fun with it.

alright guys again thanks. I am going to check all my grounds and make sure they are ok. My fuel pump may just be weak. I was also running without an alternater (sp) for initial startup, I have to put a resistor inline to tell it to come on. I havent driven it yet I probably will for ajust a short run and not get into it much I just want to see if it will roll.
