What Year? My Dad bought a '57 Chevy Pickup today. The previous owner said it had a '97 Corvette motor, but the advertisement showed it was a '98, which is an aluminum block. It has a cast block and aluminum heads. Does anyone know for sure what year the aluminum block came into production in the Corvettes?
Also, any clues as to where the vin# is located (or should be) on the motor?

97 corvettes had ls1's which is an all aluminum motor. If its cast iron and aluminum heads, could be either an LT1 or a 6.0 L LQ9 truck motor. Look at the intake if its plastic its probably the 6.0 L. If its metal its probably an LT1 (unless its a sheetmetal intake). Not sure where to check for vin numbers, but their on the block somewhere. Take a picture or find the vin and someone could tell you for sure.
