also, why couldnt you take 351W shorties and the matching mustang h pipe? Id think if they fit around a T5, they'd fit the autos or the T56s ok. I hear the shorties dont have the clearance issues w/ the steering shaft. Anyone tried this?

lol, I have some shorties off the 302 im going to try. Is the cylinder angle similar between the ls1 and the 302? If so, what is the deck height difference between the 2/ If they are similar, the 302 shorties I have may work. Ill keep you guys posted, but I'd like any other info anyone may have.

ok i answered some of my own questions.

LS1 deckheight: 9.24"
302W deck: 8.206"
351W deck: 9.503

Seems the 302 shorties would be too "short" lol The 351W header will be about .25 too long but i dont see that being a huge problem. I dont see why one wuold have to modify any tubes though everything being equal. I'd think if nothing else, we'd have more room using a 351W header because it'll drop it down .25" or so to clear most things, including the steering shaft and firewall corners.

sweet, now start working on getting a header in there and then tell me how to do it

i ordered a set of pace setter headers for an f-body ( if they need too much work to make them fit, i'll just sell them and get the 351 mac's) which should be here in a week or so ( i hope ), i'll be sure to take a bunch of pics when i get everything mocked up.

thanks for the info.

When I test fit them, they needed about another inch of drop to fit the floor pan. If someone wanted to either space down the K-member and reset all the suspension angles, or drop the motor down in the K-member more, they would fit as-is. Not sure about the steering shaft though, I fit them w/o that in the car

351 mac headers are the only way to go with this swap i have already got them in my car and they fit good except for a few mods but they are easy. They hang a little low but with the th 350 trans i am running they are perfect to clear it.

I'm probably going to custom fab some, don't want to beat up a set too badly and have something hacked to fit..

What I'm hoping to do is make a set, and then send 'em off to be duplicated. I'm sure we won't be the last folks to do these conversions
