LS1 is 2001 blazer extreme a/c help
Also, I have heard it said that a Corvette oil pan is flat on the bottom and if I use it I won't have to cut the crossmember to make the oil pan fit. Is there any truth to that?
My main problem with both of these is that I do not know how to weld (yet).
Thank you for any help.
Todd
As far as the Oil Pan, the Vette pan may be flat, but it is super wide and causes even more issues that way. Your best bet is either a truck pan and notch the crossmember alot, or a modified F-body pan from a company like Street and Performance that costs a lot of money, and then you still have to notch the crossmember, but not as much.
Also, search on here, it has been discussed before.
And as far as oilpans go, the C5 pan is out (the batwing pan). The new C6 pan might fit, you should look into it more (it isn't shaped like the C5 pan). Most everybody else is using a truck pan and either notching the pan or crossmember, and usually shortening the pan (its really deep).
And don't fret about not being able to weld. That isn't a show stopper. Check around you, there's got to be somebody who can do it, even if you've got to pay them. Check with your buddies first, but if you strike out there, check to see if you've got a welder or fabricator close by. I know my area has plenty of guys who have a rig on the back of their truck and would be happy to do a job like that for fairly low $$$. Best part is you know that its welded right. Probably would be cheaper to pay somebody the $100 to weld in a notch than to spend the $500 on the aftermarket brackets and such. Just my $.02
