Even though the cars are not that great performance wise, I think that would be pretty cool swap. Anyone think this could or couldn't be done??

anything can be done with enuf time/money/innovation.
My uncle has a Delorean with 10K miles on it... he never drives it. It has the stock Volvo motor and was slower than my dad's '78 Fairmont wagon with a 302 in it. My uncle wasn't happy when they raced... my dad was laughing afterwards...
Find out the weight of the Delorean. I bet it is portly. HP and Weight are the factors when building a performance car IMO. Cool factor is there... but find something 500lbs lighter and that is 50 free HP.

2712 pounds. Not as bad as I thought. Of course, 130hp and 153ft-lbs of torque are barely adequate for a Honda Civic. The original plan was to use a rotary engine and another source I read said that it was going to be a turbo. Cool.

I didn't know that the suspension and chassis were Lotus Esprit.

One of my business associates used to be the Senior VP od De Lorean during their short lived haydays. I still have a De Lorean brochure and will never forget what a slow docile car it was. Even a Turbo or Suprercharger wouldn't have done much to wake up that car!!!!!

the DMC is still in business in Houston. even though they can't produce any
new cars they provide remanufacture car and have enough parts to meet the demand.

That link that I posted above said that the place in TX has nothing to do with the original DMC.
"A Texas company called the DeLorean Motor Company sells refurbished DMC-12s starting at $37,500 and used models priced according to condition [23]. The cars are also available with more modern amenities, such as a more powerful engine and High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights. This company has no relationship with the original DeLorean Motor Company."
