Default Ls1 in 67 Chevelle

Im looking at putting an Ls1 in my 1967 chevelle. Just this summer I put a 700r4 behind the 350 that is in it now. It's a built tranny that shifts hard and I like it. I'm aware of the advantages of a 4l60 as far as lower first gear etc; however, after putting some major bucks into the 700r4 I would hate to toss it so how easily does an Ls1 bolt up to a 700r4?

I think it will bolt up fine but the LS1 does not have the same holes in the block for all of the trans holes at least for the turbo 350s if the 700R4 is the same. I think some of the newer blocks may have one boss that I think you can drill out and tap. you will also need a way to controll the electronics and kick down. Think the flex plate may need to be drilled in different location but not real sure. hope this gets you started....

You lose one mounting bolt with the 700R4.

You have to add a tab to the throttle body for the T.V. cable (and modify the throttle bracket to mount the T.V. cable).

You need to add the crank spacer kit so that the 700R4 torque converter hub locates properly (due to the difference in bell housing depth and torque converter thickness).

You need an aftermarket TC lockup kit (which you probably already have in your 67).

Gear ratios are the same between the two transmissions.

Thanks a bunch for all the help guys. I assume that losing one mounting hole isn't a big concern until you start making big power? And also could i get that crank spacer from somebody like Transdap? And I thought the 4l60E had a little bit lower first gear but I could be wrong because obviously you know a little more about this than i do haha.
