this is weird you posted this, just the other day i was thinking about how cool it would be to do the complete opposite..Get like a salvaged camaro, and throw a 2JZ motor with a HUGE *** turbo or possibly a 03-04 cobra motor, but i heard it wouldnt work being the heads are so large . I know alot of guys here are probably gonna flame me for posting this, but i dont care u know. Its just something i think would be really cool, and mainly just for the cool factor. I mean i know u can turbo the LS1 and what not but still. I dunno, it would mainly be for the "cool" factor. but i dunno, enough of my rambling.

And it will prove whether the Camaro or Supra chassis is what makes or breaks ETs or not

DOOO IT!

If anything, just for originality.

I just ask that you dont put a 320rwhp motor in, or everyone will say 2jz > LS1.

now a 700rwhp turbo LS1.... thats what Im talking about.

the 2JZ in a mid-80's(non classic) Camaro would be really cool. It would conjure images of mullets, cheap beer, fart can mufflers, and ricers all at once.

once again thanx for the reinforcing comments fellers,i was bracing myself to receive all kinds of threats, and insults but it seems that there are more positive remarks than negative, as i stated earlier th car should arrive by the weekend.i was goin to build a 82 camaro but now im leanin more towards the supra.i also happen to have an aluma ls1,however its hollow, yes i do have a turbo which i was planning to use on the camaro its an innovative turbo systems to4b with a "p"trim turbine and a "t4v1" trim compressor the turbine a/r is 0.81/0.96 .i also have a 28x15x3.5 front mount intercooler which was also for the camro i have began buildin a ss turbo manifold.

Go with the 5.3 setup. It would be a lot different and pretty damn cool to see. You might as well use what you have.

now its one thing for the RX7 guys to do this swap, because the stock rotaries in those cars are crapola, but theres nothing wrong with a supra motor. if you want it to haul ***, and you want to do a motor swap, why not just pick up a 2JZGTE. you can get them turn key for around $3000. you can easily get 500 hp or more to the wheels with stock twins, stock fuel system etc.

there are even turbo kits available for the stock NA motor that make over 400 to the wheels.

unless you just have more money than you know what to do with, and are dead set on the dare to be different category, i would seriously look into staying with the 2JZ platform, they are awesome motors, with awesome potential.

and for your "stuck in the 60's" ignorant uncle, show him this. 1000 hp - stock motor.

whats to hate about that?
nothings wrong...except the can on the back

just do a 5.3 swap just to stir the pot and **** people off.

I love it! Swaps that will **** off any die hard loyalists are GREAT! Especially if its still fast and functional at the same time. Screw the dyno queen peak hp motor, and go for a nice V8 power band. Especially if you've got one layin around. Some of the worlds best creations have happened by chance, like this. I bet even the Iron block motors couldn't weight too much more than the also iron block 2JZ with its big old DOHC head. If its anything like the BMW VANOS I6, you'd possibly lose a couple pounds with an aluminum motor, and maybe break even or gain a couple with an iron motor. The torque should easily compensate for that though.

However beware the ricer criticisms its bound to receive for being inferior, if its not faster than the fastest 2JZ supra.

I hadn't even thought of this until recently but this should silence some of the supra loyalists. I doubt any of you are big fans of JapanGT racing but i caught myself watching it one day and noticed that all the Supras on there were in fact V8 Supras as the announcers called them. Interesting...

if you had a workin 2JZ in the car, it would be one thing. but since its broken and you have a turbo ready LS1, go for it. it would be sweet to see an LS1 beat them at their own game

I think this will never happen and this thread is kinda alot of hot air. Honestly im lazy, and wouldnt even bother putting a ls1 in a supra. Why dont you sell your ls1 and get a 2jz? There you go, no troubles or hassles. I really dont see it worth doing that, Id rather put a ls1 in a rx7 or in a S10. I really think its not worth the time or effort. Anyways its been done befor turbo V8s in supras. Theres alot in japan, lexas V8s etc turbod. But really the cars were not faster than a 2jz. If you want to do to say hey look at me and what I did than, thats understandable. Thats like Taking a a vette and putting a Sunfire motor in it. Sure Ecotecs made 1200hp but is it a good idea, not really.

And out crazy australin freinds have swapped v8s in supras.I like the 2jz in a v6 camaro or the cobra motor.

Just my 2 cents

what does a supra motor weigh? the alum ls1 has to be very close tot he same weight, and not to mention it is shorter so the weight will be better transfered rearward for dragracing. My freinds got a 96 bmw318 he bought for an ls1 swap, and the funny thing is, even compared to an m3, the motor is lighter, and ballances the car better cause it is shorter, the only catch is the t56 is much heavier than the stock bmw trans...ide guess the same would apply to an inline 6 supra...i say do it, that would be sweet, along with a solid axle 4 link or ladder bar setup

The Supra has perfect 50/50 weight distribution.

BTW... The stock rear suspension has seen 7.3's, no need for the solid axle or a four link.

it doesnt matter what the stock stuff has seen...a 4 linked solid axle will hook better than irs...and 50/50 is not "perfect" weigh distribution for drag racing...

How many of these 2JZ's can drive to the Track on 30mpg then flip the Rom and run 8's? Not to mention function perfectly as a daily driver. Maybe they can i don't see why not. But i know an LSX motor can do it so im just askin the question.
