Default LS1 in a 72 Chevy pickup

i guess i am tossing around the idea of a LS1 swap into my 72 chevy truck. i dont figure room would be a big concern. i was thinking of buying an LS1 crate motor w/ the harness and mating it to a yank tranny with a 3500 or so stall. my truck already has a 12 bolt so a rear is no big deal. i guess the only hangup on jumping on the swap is the amount of fabrication involved and the cost difference of a 406ci w/nitrous and a 350 turbo.

a 72 chevy SWB with a single turbo LS1 and 4l60E lowered with a set of 17 or 18 inch torque thrust would be ultra cool too.

now all i need to do is win the lottery...

Them are niiiice trucks. If you have the bucks for the crate with the prefab harness, why not go for the 6 liter?

I would get a low miler iron block 6 liter take out froma wrecker, incl. harness and ecu, then mail your ecu to speartech (or tuner of choice) to get it reprogrammed. I can't imagine mounts being very hard to fab in a truck. You'd also get the beefier (4l80e - is that the rite number?) truck trans.

I got a pullout LS1 from a camaro and the wiring is just all there. There's a couple extra doodad connectors that won't get used, but it's really quite self contained and certainly very distinct from the rest of the wiring for the car. Aftermarket harnesses are pricey.

i figured i would go with a crate motor cause i have connections with some GM employees that can get me the LS1 motor w/harness for a 4l60E for 40% off the price i would have to pay. if i could come arcoss the money (any sponsors out there, would be good advertising) i would go with a 422ci LS1 and a 400 turbo tranny with a big stall. FUN FUN FUN!!! well, until the money comes i am still in the planning stage.

I just got my 94 LS1 Truck running and it moves it pretty good. i'm sure you'll have the same kind of pull.

this will give you an idea of room left, i guess.
