Default Engine swap for my CLK?

I have an LS1 engine and M6 tranny. Is there anyway to swap an LS1 into my 2000 Mercedes CLK? It's no longer under warranty, and I am not interestd in spending $10k just to make my MB v6 produce the same amount of hp as a stock LS1 engine. I'd rather spend the money on swapping an LS1 into it, leaving me with endless hp potential. The Mercedes performance aftermarket sucks.....any decent MB engine swap or Supercharger costs half as much as the damned car. Maybe I should have kept my f-body! Either way, I love the looks of my CLK, and would die to have an LS1 lurking under the hood.

Does anyone have any ideas how I may begin on this project? Are there any good fabrication shops in Northern California that would be able to do the wiring for me, or the complete swap?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

First we need to know if it will fit. Do you know if a standard SBC will fit?

It should fit, the CLK is available with a 5.4 v8, and the tuner Brabus can put 7.3 v12's in them.

Hell, if a V-12 will fit the LS1 shouldn't be a problem I would think. At least you have the fore and aft room. Easiest way to start this project is to just yank out the old motor and see how the new one fits!

Just do it!! They are neat looking little cars, but very disappointing performance-wise. It would make and awesome sleeper!! How about a 475hp H/C pkg to go along with it?!?!

From things I've seen, I think you can fit SBC(for the sake of argument, I'm including the LS1 there) in -anything- heck, they put SBC's in motorcycles for crying out loud.
go for it.

My mom has a 600SL, and if they can fit that V12 in it an LS1 will fit no problem.

By the looks of it, I'd say a redneck got himself a flooded CLK and put the motor out of his truck in it... but that's just a hunch.

if the CLK is related to the SLK (fairly sure it is)it should fit. i was looking at the crossfire(chrysler's cousin to the SLK)as a potential platform for the new hemi, and from what i could tell it would fit, that being said, i think an LS1 in there wil fit easier, weigh less, cost less, and currently be easier to modify & tune properly.

the SLK has a recirculating ball steering system that runs across behind the cross member with a drag link & idler, and the motor uses a front-sump oil pan... i think the CLK shares these parts, but i could be wrong... if so, you will need a front sump oil pan like off of a '04+ chevy trailblazer EXT, or SSR, or GMC envoy XL/XUV with a 5.3L vortec v-8 and you may still need to modify it to clear. for intake, & driven accessories you probly want f-body or 'vette parts for clearance. you're on your own sorting out the motor/trans mounts.

good luck
