LS1/T56 in '79 Firebird Formula

LS1/T56 in '79 Firebird Formula Hi all, I have a mint '79 Firebird Formula with the Olds 403/auto in it. I want a new LS1 car but prefer older car styling and since I have this mint '79 I figured I could combine the 2 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> . So what all does it take to put a LS1/T56 into a '79 Firebird Formula and making it all work right? What are the major concerns in a swap like this? Any and all information would be extremely helpful. Also any pics of a 2nd Gen. F-body with bigger (17" and up) wheels would be appreciated and if anyone knows the biggest wheel/tire combo that can fit in the wheel wells with no modifications.

Re: LS1/T56 in '79 Firebird Formula I am also working on a LS1 swap in a 2nd gen. I've got an 81 Turbo T/A with the turbo boat anchor in pieces and a LS1 T56 on the way in. I hope to have it running by the end of the year. Check out both the previously mentioned sites both have been useful reference. Hotchkis also has some good info about their in house 71 Camaro project car https://www.hotchkis.net/frames/F71/F71index.htm Street and Performance http://www.hotrodlane.cc makes motor mounts for the swap and Stainless Works http://www.stainlessworks.net says they make headers that fit. My preference is to do everything myself including the harness. I am making my own mounts (placing the motor as low and as far back as possible) and will be fabricating the headers once the motor is running. I am working on a site for my swap but the kids and the project use up most of my free time so progress is slow.
