Best place for wiring harness?

Re: Best place for wiring harness?
My latest Pace Performance catalog lists a special on the Painless LS1 engine harness (it requires the use of a 98 f-body computer) for less than $400.

Re: Best place for wiring harness?
I'm going to use the 2001+ factory wiring harness (no EGR). Its cheaper than the Painless and you don't have to use the uncommon 98 PCM, you can use any 99-02 PCM, just have it flashed for a VIN code of the year engine/transmission your using, which is no problem for me to do. I'm going to be ordering the wiring harness soon so I can start making it a stand-alone harness.

That sounds real good to me. I have a 2001 Z28 and I'm working on an LS1-based 67 Chevy II. I'm thinking it would be a good idea to use a 2001 harness and PCM on my Chevy II (I have none yet). That way I only need one set of Hanes books, and one version of LS1-edit.
So, question: where would I find a 2001 engine harness that is less expensive than the Painless harness?
thanks!!

Thanks for the info. I went with Fuel Injection Specialties www.fuelinjection.com in San Antonio. They are going to refurbish my existing harness and flash the pcm.

Oh yeah I felt like going with Painless was a step backwards using the '98 pcm.
Does anyone have the phone number to Speartech????
Nothing on website and they haven't replied to my emails. They must not want a lot of business.

Re: Best place for wiring harness?
I'll get you the GM part number. The only thing I'm not sure of is how complete it really is. I know it will have all the engine stuff, but how would it connect to the rest of the car other than the PCM I'm not sure of.
I won't be ordering mine for a few months, the engine will be at the machine shop for a while

Re: Best place for wiring harness?
Here's the GM engine wiring harness part numbers:
99-02 F-body A4: 12177652
99-02 F-body M6: 12177653
www.sdpc2000.com sells them for $312.12 Also available are PCM's preprogrammed to the VIN you specify. I would suggest a 01+ VIN for the lack of EGR.

Re: Best place for wiring harness?
Joseph,
Thanks for the part numbers. That price does look real attractive for a new harness.
Brian,
I've bought other stuff from valvegod before so that truck harness also sounds good. Any idea how it differs from the LS1 harness that Joseph published the part no. for? Or if it will work with a 99-02 F-body PCM?
thanks,
John Parsons

Re: Best place for wiring harness?
Just FYI, I checked GMpartsdirect.com for the GM M6 engine wiring harness and its $237.21. Quite a bit cheaper than SDPC.

Re: Best place for wiring harness?
$284.65 Final price.
What is the difference between the 98 PCM and wiring harness as compared to the newer ones. Is there some kind of advantage to the 99+ stuff. Also , anyone know the part # for the 98 harness. Thanks.

Try calling gmpartsdirect.com and talking to someone! The 98 pin positions were quite a bit different than the newer ones. I think 98 PCM's were one of the slower PCM's.

Re: Best place for wiring harness?
last year I had Fuel Injection Specialties do my hardness, I sent them my s10 hardness and the ls1 hardness. they said it would take them 3 weeks. after the three weeks was up I call them they said it would be next friday. three month of next friday I call told them to have my wiring hardness back by next friday or give me my hardness's back. and at the same time I cancel my check. I had the wiring hardness back the next friday and it look like ****. it was wired up for two pcm. I ended up having to buy a new wiring hardness for the S10 and the LS1 and I wired it up my self. There wiring hardness did not work. When I call them and ask about there workmanship they said that they was rushed to get it done.
so if you use Fuel Injection Specialties there's know telling what you mite get,
