Got the RX7 running, but stumbles very bad???
Any ideas?
'00 LS1 / T56 in '87 RX7 Turbo II.
Runs fine for a few minutes, than if I floor it, the thing acts like someone pulled the plug. It just tries to die.
also, if I'm cruising at a nice easy pace, than try to give more throttle, it wil also crap out. It'll pull for half a second, than just drop. My wife almost hit her head on the dash. That's how bad is stumbles.
One more example. I can run on the Interstate at speed in 6th, but try to give a little passing throttle and there she goes, stumbling, coughing a little, running like crap.
Any ideas????

Mark,
it almost sounds like a MAF problem but if it's running on the freeway i'd count that out. you're sure it's from the motor? i dont mean in the slightest to undermind you're mechanical abilities but since i dont have much else to go on, i've got to rule out driveline problems and such. if you're convinced, it's the motor, find a friend with Autotap ;D other than that, check all the connections again and start pulling plugs, o2's, ect.. good luck and let us all know how those 1/4 mile times turn out when the bugs work out!

Re: Got the RX7 running, but stumbles very bad???
The latest: Some asked if I had these.....
No mods in place yet. Wanted to get it running first. No MAFT. And my AFM was taken apart before cleaning and porting.
I've got a fuel pressure gauge, and adj. regulator. I HAVE PRESSURE.
No vac. leaks. Good grounds (actually grounded like a "*****").
Ya'll are gonna kill me, but the problem was... Upon application of torque, I was starving the motor! Trip to gas station = Full tank = Happy, hauling a$$ son-of-a-gun!!!!!
Still have to deal with the broken rear diff. mount, but at least I know the car is gonna be ok!
Guys, the 2.5" dual exhaust w/ Borla XR1's sounds GREAT! Arrived at a friends house today without them even knowing I pulled up! But man, a little throttle, it's a different world!
I'll get sound and video up on my site in a few days.

LS1 Powered - Try to extend the intake before and after the MAF. No cone on the end of the MAF and further from the bend behind the MAF.

John@PACE,
I guess you saw some pics? Your exactly right. Back in the rotary days, the K&N cone was in the front right brake duct of the bumper cover. It is a excellent location. (No, it didn't have water/ rain related problems, due to the underskirt preventing that stuff.) Ayway, I'm going to feed this motor COLD air the same way. I'm still waiting on parts to come in. As soon as it's done, I'll post more pics of it's new configuration!
Thanks everybody! This 2700lb, 4.10 geared car is now a BLAST!!!

So, the 4.10 gears, light weight and T56 are working well as a combination? I have a 4.11 R&P in my Datsun and have just been presuming that those will have to be swapped out for 3.54 or possibly 3.36. I was imagining 1st gear being pretty much useless.
Not so?
BTW, I covet that LS1 3rd gen.

1st gear is pretty much a "tire fryer"!
I start in 2nd and 3rd sometimes. Rolling in 2nd, I can light 'em up without clutch. Cruising around town in 5th is just right. 6th on the Interstate works better than I planned. With my tire diameter and gear ratios, 70 mph is 2350 rpm in 6th.
Installing a solid rear end mount today. The stocker broke first day out! A new stocker is $140, so I'm making a solid one. Whos knows, if it's to lound, I'll spend the money, but trying this first.

What tires are you running? I have a spreadsheet with tire diameters and T56 gear ratios in there and I can't hardly get that to come out. Are you running the standard T56 with the .5 OD gear? If so, do you redline in 1st at 7mph?

First gear is useful if you have traction. Second gear is too much for launch, and or burning clutch. In between would be great. Sixth gear is perfact
