Your VATS system is shutting off the fuel. On engine start, the PCM looks for a VIN# to be transmited from the body computer. If this message is not recieved within 5 seconds max, the PCM will turn off the injectors.

You will need to have theft turned off in the PCM.

Well my CJ5 has its 97 LS1 installed. It starts but dies after about 2 to 4 seconds. It will start if I turn the key while the check engine light is still on but if I wait 4 seconds or so after the light goes off it will just turn over.
Any Ideas. Vats maybe. If vats then what wire does the computer take in the Vats signal?

Thanks for the info. The custom side pipes and Hooker mufflers realy sound good, then silence. I'm glad my drive shafts arn't back yet, cause I'd want to be driving it.

Yep I built mine for under that I needed a lmm555 timer a few resistors and a couple capacitors. I wish I could post a pic on this site... I would post the simple circuit to make one. If anyone would like I could post it over on pennocks fiero forum and provide a link so everyone could see it

You need a VATs module or programming to remove it. The Vats module is easy to make for about $10. You need a 50 Hz square wave signal to the PCM to get it started( not a vin number). I am not sure of the pin out for a 97 PCM but the wire is always blue. Ls1.com has pin outs for all years up top in gen help. If you would like I can explain how to make the VATs box... Let me know

Those VATS modules work on F body extracted LS1's. My Vette was a different story. Read post "Vats Module Details Please" Speartech fixed my problem. It's a Vin# exchange between the PCM & the BCM, over the class II serial data line.
Here's what my LS1 was thinking, "Last thing I heard was a big smash, then the next thing I knew there's a winch in front of me, a Dump truck tranny behind me, and I could sware I hear a banjo in the back ground, I'm shutting down if I don't get that Vin# in 5."

Thanks for the replys earlier. Mine should be running soon,, so if your in the Jackson Ms area or Austin Tx. It's black primer for a few weeks then a Midnight blue, golden eagle with tan or nutmeg colored vinyl dash and roll bar. A Bosch 9 inch back up light inside the spare is another way the spot it. Oh, one more thing,, it sounds real good,, but we all know that..

The Jeep Runs!! I had a little problem at first with the fans blowing 20 amp fuses but I moved up and all is well.
