Default Did some Wiring this weekend....

Hey guys, there have been a lot of questions on how to rewire the engine harness lately. It's kind of hard to know what questions to ask unless you dive right in. So I had some good "quality time" with my service manuals this weekend. I am working with a 2001 LS1 M6 harness so there may be some differences.

I.)
Here are the things that I am removing: (obviously I'll have to edit the computer with LS1-Edit correspondingly) :
1) EVAP Solenoid Control (Near the driver's side fuel rail) I believe it had a hot/gnd/ and control from PCM
2) A.I.R Valve Solenoid Control (Rear Driver's side near fuel rail) I think it also had a hot/gnd/ and control from PCM
3) AC Pressure Sensor Connector & AC Compressor Control... these both had control or feeds that I removed back to the pcm as well as pwr&gnd's

I forgot the Rear O2s but will go back and remove them tonight. They have pwr/gnd and feeds to the pcm as well.

I suppose you could just leave these things disconnected, but many of them will receive 12v power if you hook up all the PWR/ignition without looking to see what they feed (I'd at least tape them up).

II.)
Now on to those connectors that don't go anywhere. It'll just identify them and then tell you what I pulled out. (I'm at work so this is just off the top of my head)

C220, C230 (non weather proof white & blue)
C100, C101, C102, C105 (more weatherpacks)
Off the top of my head these go to...
1) BCM (VATS Fuel Enable, ?Starter Solenoid Enable?)
2) Fuel Tank (Fuel Level, pwr, gnd,)
3) Fuel Pump (Fuel Pump Relay Enable)
4) Starter Coil Feed from Relay(C102 I think, heavy wire)
5) Clutch pedal sensors (control signals, pwr&gnd)
6) Some traction control module (I think this is where the TPS signals and Ignition Retard signals are going)
7) SES Light (This is the gnd for the LED)
8) Fuse Block (2 battery pwr and many ignition power)
9) Guages (VSS for speedo, Tach Signal, Oil Pressure, dummy lights)
I'm sure I missed some stuff, but that will give you an idea to help you find things in the service manual easier...

III.)
Stuff I brought out to splice into the car harness...
1) Fuel Pump Relay Control (to Fuel Pump Relay)
2) Fuel Pump Relay VATS Enable (to 50 Hz Square wave source)
3) VSS Signal (hopefully this will work with my autometer speedo)
4) Tach Signal (to tach guage)
5) Ign Power Feeds (coils, injectors, PCM, sensors, etc.)
6) 12v Batt Power Feeds (to PCM)
7) Clutch Signal (Goes straight to PCM not sure if I can make this work or not)
8) SES Light (this will go to the ground of my LED)
9) Starter Coil Power (will be fed from a starter relay and controlled by crank pwr from ignition)
Have to double check to see if that's all when I get home...

That's all I can remember right now, but it will give you a place to start. I took out a lot of stuff completely out of the harness while you could just clip some wires and leave them loose in the harness. Do not attempt this without a service manual!!! I think that is pretty obvious. I'm not saying everything I have done is correct or necessary. It's just what I have done and we'll see if it works or not in a few weeks!

Hopefully this will serve as a starting point for further discussions. I just thought we needed a more detailed thread if we were going to get anywhere on this... afterall, this is the best place for LS1 swap info on the net'

Thanks John,

Nice Monte! You've inspired me to make a set of headers myself. Should be starting on them next week.

Confusion. My laptop with the service manuals installed on it is dead currently. I have several sheets of diagrams and connector pinouts that I printed months ago.

Wiring frightens me. I have a stock 99 fbody A4 harness.

I had started to wire up the stock camaro fuel tank stuff (I have a complete 99 fbody tank: pressure, level, pump, etc.) to C230. But I think this is totally wrong. Now I'm thinking that it is supposed to be wired to C101. Oddly my C101 is missing the ppl/wht wire that is supposedly for iginition feed.

I have a diagram that shows circut 465 going to the fuel pump relay. Circuit 465 is on connector C101 as a grn/wht wire that is labelled as "Idle Speed Control Motor feed-external". WTF?

When it says "Output" or "Feed" on a connector pinout, what does that mean? For instance, "Fuse Output", does that mean that wire comes FROM the hot end of a fuse? And so "Feed" would mean that it goes TO that thing, such as Idle Speed.

So on 465, is that a mistake, where it's calling it Idle Speed Feed? Everything seems consistent - color, connector position, etc. Except for that description.

Here's what C101 has on it

Pin A Yel/blk, 625, VATS Starter realy output
Pin B pnk, 839, Fuse output ignition
Pin C , brn, 436, Idle speed control motor feed retract
Pin D, Grn/wht, 465, Idle Speed Control motor feed extend (Fuel pump relay???)
Pin E, pnk/blk, 439, Fuse output ign. 1
pin F not used
pin G, Orn, 340, Fuse output batery
pin H, blk/wht, 451, engine control mod. ground
Pin J, ppl/wht, 1035, Ignition feed (Missing???)
Pin K, gry/blk, 1687, Ignition retard signal europe

SO! What do I do? Connect that Grn/Wht wire to the fuel pump relay, and the pink wire to the ignition switch? Orange to a hot fuse. Speartech re-did my PCM so I don't have VATS.

On C230, is that all for the guages? For instance, pin H, dk grn, 890 says Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Signal. Is that coming or going?

If it's not C230, then I have no idea what connectors are meant for the pressure and level senders.

Help?

I've started wiring things up. Sure would like some kind of confirmation that I'm not gonna fry my PCM or anything though...

I grabbed a fuseblock with modern fueses and 4 relays from a 80s Maxima from the salvage yard. Fuel pump gets power from a relay which gets power from a 20amp fuse. Relay is controlled by that green wire from the above post.

I'm only half done though. Many more wires to splice.....
