I found the vette front end accessories fairly expensive & the alt sits up high. In the end I went with the F body set up and reckon it's more compact.

I like the extra 3/4". I also like the idea of the alternator mounted low.

I may end up going with the Vette pulley, and remounting the alternator....

Thanks for the info guys!

All the Vette accessories are approximately 3/4" closer to the block than the F-body stuff. I made the swap, it's easy. The air-conditioning compressor is in the same place on both versions...which I'm trying to raise to a high passenger side location, which nobody seems to make hardware to do. I want to use the "factory" compressor, not an after-market. Ed

Default vette vs. fbody crank pulley

I read somewhere that the crank pulley used on the vette version of the LS1 is shorter than that used on the fbody - effectively moving the belts and everything closer to the front of the engine and reducing the overall length of the engine.

Does anyone know for sure if this is true? And if so, how much the difference is?

I'm looking for all of the space that I can, if I can get some by using the vette setup, that would be cool. Of course that means either getting a vette engine, or a complete vette bracket set - just another bridge to cross...

Thanks!

Yes the vette pulley is shorter. I think it is either 5/8" or 3/4" shorter.

And it's all driven using a single belt too! That's a nice setup John. I wanted to get away from the second belt and put it all on one as well.

Of course, I'm considering removing the water pump and putting a remote electric one on it to save me even more up front room. In that case I won't have the pulley in the middle so I'll have to come up with another idler somewhere.
