Silverado V6 to a V8
I have a 2002 Automatic Reg. Cab Silverado 4X4 with a 4.3L V6. I was wanting to drop in a new V8 crate motor if possible. I am new to conversions and was wondering what parts are needed to complete this ordeal. I also would like to know all about conversions so any help would be nice. I am wanting to get all the torque I can out of the engine and will be using the new motor in the mud as well as the street. So what is the best motor to drop in my truck, 8.1 or 502 Crate motor, GM 6.0, or the GM 5.7. Please let me know all you know and all you need for the conversion.
Thanks
Steve

Re: Silverado V6 to a V8
Come on i take a lot of **** but my dad knows the dealer so we got like $8,000 off the V6 because it was the last in stock. But we are willing to work at converting it after saving $8,000 because we can do more.
Thanks,
Steve
I need a lot of help tring to figure out what supplies i need for the swap.

Rather than trying to collect a bunch of pieces, you might be better off to find a V8 truck that was rolled up in a ball and merge the 2 trucks.

Find a 6.0 and PCM out of a wrecked 3/4 ton. It should bolt in easier and you will run into a lot less problems. I would recommend posting on the truck board, someone there has surely tried this or knows someone who has.

Buy a rolled over LS1 Trans Am or Camaro from Ebay for around $3750 and get the Silverado V8 harness from www.GMdirect.com for around $275. You will have more then enough parts to build your V8 truck with an all aluminum engine. You will also save weight. A 4x4 V8 Transmision from a the newer Silverado is also pretty cheap on Ebay around $450. <img border="0" alt="[evil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />
