Also, does anyone know how big of a hole I need to drill in the firewall to get the wiring harness through it? I want to mount the computer under the dash. Is that where you guys put yours? Thanks, John
Alternator clears no problem. I dont know about the heater box because my fire wall smoothted. In my car there is a whole on the firewall right behind the driver side head which I use for wires. I wiil install my PCM under the passinger fender on the firewall where heater motor used to be.
Take an educated guess as to whether the wiring is long enough to go where you want it under the dash. I had to install the PCM inside on my Astro AWD as there was no place to put it under the hood. I had to extend the wiring 32 inches. That is a lot of soldering when you take 140 wires and multiply X2. The more joints you make, the more potential problems. I had a few before I learned NOT to follow GM's recommendations for the splicing of control wiring and redid the whole works.
The hole has to be big enough to get a PCM connector and 1/2 the wiring harness through .
Hope this helps.
If you didn't use the S&P motor mounts, did you have to fabricate your own? I am asking b/c i too am going to use the a/c, and i am no sure if it will fit.

I used motor mounts from the year one 69 camaro. The guy who made them was Phil Brewer from BRPhotrods.com. I had to modify my th400(for t56) crossmember by hogging out nearly all of the middle section and welded a bracket on the motor side of the member. I also had to lower the mounting point by about 1.25 inches. The motor mounts are just brand new small block mounts welded to a flat piece of steel with about a .25 inch spacer between them. Nothing to look at but they function properly. One note, the ac fits but it is tight and would require lifting the motor to replace or service it.
